Target Lower Tox Cleaning + Home Items
This is only the better swaps I found in my specific store - yours may potentially have more! Just want to encourage those that need in store swaps that there are better options out there
Cookware
I was so excited to see caraway and stainless steel options!
Cast iron would also be a great option. Generally speaking, I would avoid non-stick/teflon, unlined copper. Our place was also in store and a "better" choice but I would still grab stainless steel or caraway first.
Bedding
Threshold had a literal section of organic cotton bedding in all sizes and it's 40% off!
Laundry
The way I screamed when I saw they carry Molly suds. Not only is this one of the cleanest brands overall but I love its in stores!
If your store didn't have this, I would say seventh generation laundry detergent free and clear packs.
Cutting Boards
Aim for wood, glass of stainless steel. This was the best option I found at my store
Dishes
These Corelle dishes are actually a great low toxic option and affordable!
Glass, stainless steel and compostible paper plates are great options too
Glassware
Dollar section alert! They have all kinds of glass storage, drink ware, spray bottles, laundry jugs, soap dispensers and more right now!
Kitchen Storage
Glass storage is top notch. Try to find some with glass/silicone lids or silicone lids. If you can't, go with the typical plastic lids. It's still a great low tox option.
Cooking Utensils
Avoid plastic/nylon! Go for solid wood or stainless steel. If those aren't in the budget, silicone would be next.
Food Storage
There was a ton of beeswax paper options and unbleached parchment paper!
Bags
Stasher is pretty much queen in reusable bags and they had every single option lol. Paper bags would also be a good option! Overall, limit plastic where you can.
Garbage Bags
Ditch anything scented! I did see some recycled plastic ones that were better options!
Castile Soap
If you need dish soap, hand soap or want to make an all purpose cleaning spray - Dr. Bronners would be the best option I found in store (I have a DIY cleaning recipes post that uses Castile soap if you want to DIY your cleaning supplies)
Dishwasher Detergent
Best in store option I found was seventh generation.
Ever spring... they have a lot of undisclosed fragrance that I'm not sure that they disclose (haven't reached out to them. I would possibly still buy this tho if I needed something in a pinch.
Mixing bowls, measuring cups, glasses, bakeware
Aim for glass or stainless steel - my store pretty much had glass options for everything.
Sanitizing Wipes
If you need a quick sanitizing wipe, grab the honest ones. You can use them on your hands, cleaning around the house, shopping carts etc.
